There probably isn’t another area of science that is so influenced by the media, Google results or what your club-mate on a Sunday ride swears by than nutrition.
Sports science itself isn’t much more than 100 years old, and sports nutrition has only developed since we’ve had the technology in exercise physiology to really see its effect in muscle biopsies and increasingly advanced techniques to understand what’s going on at a cellular level.
In all areas of sport, myths exist. Whether its training techniques, nutrition or equipment, doing something because “that’s we’ve always done” sets ideas that often go unchallenged.
Here we try and tackle four of the most common myths around energy, protein intake and caffeine, and give a balanced argument for each of them to try and help you make the choices for yourself.
