For us, the biggest issues in the past have been with the success people have had – they couldn’t cope with it and weren’t prepared for it. It caused us a lot of problems after the Beijing Olympics.

Failure’s easy to deal with – you roll your sleeves up, you revisit what you did prior to the event – you training and preparation – and you go away and redress it. That’s what we do at British Cycling and Team Sky – and it applies to everyone. You might have to train a little harder, you might need to focus more on your recovery, but you go back and revisit it.
