The psychology behind whatever we do in life is massive.
If you make a mistake, stop, don’t dwell on it and move on. Everyone can deal with failure, it’s the success that some people can’t deal with. For us, the biggest issues in the past have been with the success people have had – they couldn’t cope with it and weren’t prepared for it. It caused us a lot of problems after the Beijing Olympics.
Failure’s easy to deal with – you roll your sleeves up, you revisit what you did prior to the event – you training and preparation – and you go away and redress it. That’s what we do at British Cycling and Team Sky – and it applies to everyone. You might have to train a little harder, you might need to focus more on your recovery, but you go back and revisit it.
