Dedacciai Strada Assoluto road bike – First Ride

Move over Scorsese, there’s a remake of raging bull coming…

“Who? Deda make components don’t they?” – a colleague commented.

Tis true – but they also make eye-catching frames and these in turn are offered by distributor Chicken Cycles as complete bikes.

Priced at an SRP of £2319.99 for a full carbon (frame and fork)  cycle, Dedacciai’s Strada Assoluto, in gleaming red, white and black, immediately struck a chord.  A chord struck hard enough to prompt Shiny Boy Arthur to raise a plus one in its general direction. That’s the paint job sorted for all the show ponies out there, then.

Dedacciai frames are distributed exclusively by chicken cycles here in the UK. I had the pleasure of taking one for a ride last night.

Here are some first impressions:

Rapid response

Light as a feather as expected, no rocket science there – but to be honest, such is the quality of components on offer – Campag mostly, I was still surprised how quickly the hammer went down as this raging bull of a bike demanded to be powered on by its over-enthusiastic rider.

Oli – my ride partner going home, gave me the “You’re like a child with a new toy” after about two minutes as he ate my dust. Indeed I was.

Ride sensation

The brochure claims: The structural features of the frame are emphasised by the latest innovations made on the steering-gear and on the back horizontal small forks [sic], both completely made in carbon; you’ll immediately have the sensation of a comfortable and extremely stable chassis.”

Not usually one to completely agree with the marketer’s comments, I nevertheless came home (quite a bit quicker than usual) thinking this was quite correct. The all-carbon frame has certainly delivered a stiff but responsive ride. The 10 mins with the hacksaw was completely worth it, and I would urge people not to be put off by the integrated seat post.

On this evidence, this is a serious machine for just over 2000 hard-earned english pounds. And if you’re looking for your very own Italian stallion and something that definitely won’t be seen in every bike shop – I’d be tempted to take a closer look for yourself.
