The CTC’s women-only sportive in Reading on Sunday September 18 has secured Big Lottery Funding to keep entry fees down to £10 per rider.
Three routes are available – 25km, 50km and 80km – with each designed to offer terrain suitable to the level of the participant – so no big climbs or steep descents on the shorter options.
Each route will be fully signposted, electronically timed, have well-stocked feed and drink stations, mechanical back-up on route as well as at the start/finish area, and support vehicles on the course.
The sportive is part of the CTC Cycle Champions programme, which aims to encourage traditionally hard to reach groups to start cycling or help them cycle more. Contact your local Cycle Champions development officer to find out about a series of training rides and courses in the run-up to the sportive.
“We’re really looking forward to this women-only event as we have had a lot of interest not just locally but also from further a field,” said CTC cycling development officer Mark Tancock.
“It’s a great way to see the beautiful countryside round Reading and with a choice of distances to suit most abilities it promises to be a good day out.
“If anyone needs any help with training or equipment advice please give us a call or come to one of our many cycling sessions. We’re hoping as it’s women-only that more women will come out to try an event in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere.”
