cycle 2005

Young people with pedal power will be in their element at the Cycle Show – Britain’s premier cycling exhibition, which takes place at ExCeL, London from October 14th – 16th.
They can meet sporting celebrities, receive expert coaching on a Transport for London City Test Track and watch the world’s greatest trials riders battle it out for £3,000 on a purpose built indoor urban trials track – and all for just £1 if they come along with a paying adult.

In fact, the Cycle Show is packed full of fantastic features for all the family – making it a great value day out for everyone. Families can start the day by cycling to the show. Visit www.cycleshow.co.uk for routes to ExCeL, or why not join an organised ride with Brompton on Saturday 15th or CTC on Sunday 16th October. There will be a number of pick up points allowing you and your family to tag along at your convenience.

And Shimano will be providing free bike parking and servicing while visitors browse the aisles, ensuring all your family’s bikes reach safety standards. Almost 200 brands will be exhibiting at the show allowing visitors a sneak preview of all their latest bikes, clothing and accessories before they hit the shops in 2006.

Specific brands for little ones to look out for include Hap Chi, Like a Bike and Active Sports, which all do fantastic frames for the smaller cyclist.

There will also be loads of other activities taking place throughout the show including the celebrity sports star duathlon. Athletes Iwan Thomas, Darren Campbell and Katharine Merry will be taking part on Friday 14th October, along with British world trials champion Ben Slinger, BMX rider Shanaze Read and superbiker Maria Costello. They will all be circulating at the show afterwards giving your youngsters the chance to speak to some of their sporting heroes.

And with trials being the coolest thing in cycling right now, youngsters are sure to be enthralled by the international trials competition, taking place every day.

The world’s greatest trials riders will compete on an indoor urban course, jumping on and off cars, phone boxes, lorry grabs and park benches, all combining to create a show-style competition that is guaranteed to keep kids hooked.

Transport for London will have a central presence at this year’s Cycle Show with a bike test track, free cycling training and activities for children. TfL is supporting the Cycle Show as part of its ongoing campaign to promote cycling in the capital.

Other show features include the Cycle Circuit Race on Sunday 16th October when elite riders will be battling it out for a £1.5K prize purse on an outdoor circuit, the Procycling Cinema where some of the greatest road racing footage and interviews ever captured on film will be shown and the all-action dance fashion show, with all the latest clothing from the likes of Nike, Adidas, Foska and Troy Lee. So it seems that the Cycle Show is set to be a spectacle guaranteed to keep kids of all ages entertained for hours.
