Last Chance to Sign Up for the ManchesTour!
The ManchesTour mass participation ride is just over a week away and time
is running out to get your entries in for the challenge ride. The ride
takes place on Bank Holiday Monday 30th August but the closing date for
entries is Sunday 22nd August.
The ManchesTour has been organised to celebrate the return of the Tour of
Britain (1st – 5th September) and marks the first steps in moving towards
and etape style mass participation ride in the UK. Ride supporters include
Sport England, Manchester Evening news, Manchester City Council and
Lucozade Sport.
The ride starts at the City of Manchester Stadium in Sportcity and within
four kilometres of the start, participants are in the countryside heading
east for the Pennines, for a tough 110kms route through Lancashire, West
Yorkshire and Derbyshire, including the fearsome climb of Holme Moss, the
same climb the Tour riders will face on the 2nd stage from Leeds to
Sheffield.
To appeal to all levels of cyclist there are also two shorter routes and a
free to enter Tour of Sportcity where British Cycling will be holding a
variety of activities including Go-Ride skills tests.
On the challenge ride you will enjoy a unique riding experience as
transponders will be fitted to your bike to accurately log your time. In
addition, all routes will be marshalled by National Escort Group
Motorcycle Marshals and there will be Lucozade Sport Fuelling zones where
you can get technical back-up and free refreshments. To complete the
experience there will be a wide range of attractions at the start and
finish in Sportcity to ensure a fantastic day for all the family.
