Train station charity cycle ride

Dean Wood will ride for 11 hours at Paddington Station

On 7 January 25-year-old Dean Wood will attempt to ride for 11 hours straight in Paddington Station, London, to raise money for the Make-A-Wish charity.

The feat will take place on a stationary trainer on the concourse of one of London’s busiest train stations. Dean will hope to raise the £6,400 sponsorship he and partner Samantha Williams need to take part a 675 mile cycle from London to Geneva with Discover Adventure, commencing on 16 June 2010

Dean hopes to smash the target and give all the proceeds to Make-A-Wish, the charity that grants magical wishes to children and young people fighting life-threatening illnesses.

“I wanted to incorporate cycling into our fundraising efforts to kick start my training,” said Dean. “As for doing it in Paddington station, it’s something a bit different – I have never heard of anyone having done it before.

“I chose Make-A-Wish because when I first heard about them I was really taken aback by what they do. It is such a good cause – it would be lovely if we could raise as much as we can.”

To help them reach their target for Make-A-Wish, visit Dean and Sam’s fundraising webpage at www.justgiving.com/l2g-cycle or contact Make-A-Wish on 01276 40 50 60. There are currently 20,000 children and young people in the UK fighting a life-threatening illness. In 2010 around 1,000 children will turn to Make-A-Wish to experience the magic of a Make-A-Wish wish. To grant all these Make-A-Wish needs to raise at least £5 million each year
