MCipollini 2013 models arrive in the UK

We’ve brought you new offerings from Felt and Moda in recent days. Here’s the 2013 line up from MCipollini.

The brand is headed by former world road race champion and sprint legend, Mario Cipollini, winner of a record 42 stages of the Giro d’Italia.

Stylistically, the frames take their lead from one of cycling’s most flamboyant champions, but there is plenty of substance here too, notably in Italian manufacture.

The Bond is the new entry point to the Cipollini line, premiered in suitably OTT-style at Eurobike on a stand the size of a shopping centre, on which a short film of Mario in the role of cycle-powered secret agent played continually.

The title is a clever nod to what is a bonded carbon frame (front triangle, seat stays, and chain stays), and, so new territory for MCipollini whose other, more expensive offerings are a full carbon monocoque. Further departures for the brand can be found in the Bond’s bottom bracket (FSA’s 386 Evo standard, familiar to the readers of RCUK from Wilier’s Zero 7) and a traditional seatpost, in preference to the integrated seat masts of models further up the range.

We’re reliably informed that the Bond’s geometry lies somewhere between the super stiff, aero profiled RB1000 (more of which below) and the more relaxed Logos. Its closest cousin is the race ready FB800. Expect to pay £2500 for the frameset. UK distributor, Paligap, are importing them as frameset-only offerings, appealing perhaps, to those with an eye for a custom build.

The flagship RB1000 remains unchanged for 2013 with the exception of a suitably head-turning red and silver paint scheme. When we caught up with Super Mario in Bristol earlier his year, he described the 1000 as ‘my bike’. It’s one of two machines supplied to the Italian Farnese Vini-Selle Italia team, whose Matteo Rabottini carried off the King of the Mountains classification at this year’s Giro d’Italia. Price has yet to be confirmed, but the 2012 model sold for £4200.

During the Spring Classics, notorious for brutal, frequently cobbled road surfaces, Farnese-Vini climb aboard the FB800, presumably for the more forgiving lay up than the aero flagship. It’s another machine to have received only a cosmetic update this year. 2013 colours will be available in the UK within eight weeks. It will sell for £3300.

The Logos, introduced last year, remains unchanged for 2013, and will cost £3200 for the frameset. The Speed track bike, pictured above, also remains unchanged. The frameset will cost £4600.
