Dave Griffiths Memorial Races on 6 July

Racing Team 316, one of the UK’s newest cycling clubs, is to host its first major event – two races in memory of the club’s inaugural president, David Griffiths, who died last year, aged 56.

Entries are now being accepted to the Dave Griffiths Memorial Races, which will be held on the Lyne circuit, in Surrey, on Sunday, July 6. Race HQ is at Brook Hall in Ottershaw, near Chertsey.

The first race, for Regional A 2/3/4 category riders, starts at 9.30am. The second, a Veterans race for Masters C Plus, will start at 2pm. Both distances are 100k, consisting of six laps of the Lyne circuit, followed by three of Kitsmead.

The winner of the Vets race will also receive the Dave Griffiths Memorial Trophy, which will be presented by Dave’s widow, Anne, and daughter, Katie. Dave’s son, Mark, will make his debut as a racing cyclist in the morning race.

Dave Griffiths was a well known, and extremely popular LVRC rider. He originally raced in Twickenham CC colours before becoming a founder member of RT316.(RT stands for Racing Team, and 316 is the road most members live near.)

Both events will be staged under British Cycling Technical Regulations with Doug Collins acting as Chief Commissaire and Bill Butterworth as Clerk of the Course.

To enter, please send entries on a British Cycling Road Race Entry Form to the organizer, Mr Ray Healey of RT316, before the 16th June closing date. Entry fee is £10 for either event (£12 EOL).
