With the promise of fine weather, all the major ingredients for Sunday’s Lincoln Grand Prix are now well settled with a line up of 175 riders both from home and away should produce an exciting event.
The UK’s leading riders are saying that they want to do well at Lincoln, which showcases the sport of cycle road racing, bringing racing through the historic streets of the City.
The cobbled climb of Michaelgate has become something of a celebrity itself and is certainly where much of the action, particularly in the later stages of the race, takes place, but the rest of the eight mile circuit is not easy with the long climb of Long Leys Road becoming a leg stretcher in the last few laps.
Adding to the £3000 prize list are special awards The Brian Cossavella Michaelgate Trophy, The East Midlands Development Agency award, the Jackson Building Centres Meritorious rider and the British Cycling East Midlands Best Rider. Together they add a further £490 to the prize list.
The race starts earlier than normal at 10 am from the Yarborough Leisure Centre to the north side of Lincoln and covers 11 laps of the circuit to finish in Lincoln’s historic Castle Square at around 1.30 pm.
