Bradley Wiggins (Team Sky) produced a sensational ride to win the Criterium du Dauphiné time trial and underline his status as favourite ahead of the Tour de France. Here’s how it happened…

Andy Schleck lost nearly 11 minutes to Wiggins after crashing and puncturing, severely denting the Radioshack-Nissan-Trek rider’s confidence ahead of a Tour de France which features approximately 100km of time trialing.

David Millar (Garmin-Barracuda) produced a fine ride to finish ninth, giving Great Britain’s selectors a timely reminder as to his ability against the clock ahead of the Olympic Games.

Vuelta a Espana runner-up Chris Froome (Team Sky) ensured there were three Brits in the top ten by finishing sixth.

And there were also three Team Sky riders in the top then thanks to three-time world time trial champion Michael Rogers’ ride to third.

Current world time trial champion Tony Martin was favourite to win the stage and set the fastest time before seeing Wiggins better it by 34 seconds.

Cadel Evans (BMC Racing) lost one minute and 43 seconds to Wiggins – and was nearly caught by the Brit on the road.

Wiggins in full flight…

The Team Sky leader’s performance has left his Tour de France rivals wondering how they can beat him in July.
