Riding at speeds of 40mph to crush his rivals, Wiggins delivered a masterclass in riding against the clock to win the stage by 1.16 seconds from highly talented teammate, Chris Froome.
The time trial champion of Spain, Luis Leon Sanchez (Rabobank) was third after setting an early time that withstood the onslaught of all but the champion elect and runner-up.
