Danilo Di Luca racing in this years Tour of Britain
Following the successful Tour of Britain recently, the organisers behind the UK’s premier road stage race have confirmed 12 to 19 September 2009 as the dates to pencil into your calendar.
The eight day race has once again been awarded by the UCI a 2.1 categorisation, which allows for up to a maximum of 50% of the teams participating to be from the ProTour.
With the 2008 event fresh in our minds, 20 teams have expressed a desire to take part in the race next year. TV coverage brought the race into homes around the country with an average 310,000 viewers and peaking to 376,000 for the highlights of Stage Five to Dalby Forest in Yorkshire.
The 2009 Tour of Britain will finish in central London, on the same iconic circuit as used for the opening stage of this year’s Tour with full details of the route being announced at the national launch in the spring.
