VC In-Gear takes off

A new cycling club aimed at riders interested primarily in cyclosportives and recreational cyclists has been set up by Sussex-based In-Gear Cycle Sport. Named Velo Club In-Gear, the club is based online at www.vcin-gear.co.uk and is intended to run as a ‘virtual’ club with membership available to anyone regardless of where they live.

The one-off joining fee of £20 entitles new members to a club jersey and water bottle plus an email address that allows access to the vc-ingear forum. The club is affiliated to both British Cycling and Cycling Time Trials, allowing members to compete in events run under the regulations of both organisations should they wish. An individual BC membership is also required to compete in road and track races.

In-Gear’s owner Pete Roberts came up with the idea following a series of ‘have-a-go’ time trials run last summer. ‘We found most of the riders weren’t club members: they wanted something different,’ he says. ‘The new club is a way for keen riders who don’t necessarily want to race to meet like-minded people and be part of something, without the formalities of a traditional club.’
VC In-Gear runs alongside the Uckfield cycle shop’s elite racing team, and makes its competitive debut at the team’s In-Gear Open 25-mile TT on 6 May.
