Revolution Protect Mudguard Set – review

Mudguards are an essential purchase for the year-round cyclist, stopping spray whipped up from the road from reaching your back but, perhaps more importantly, providing protection for the rider sat on your wheel. This front and rear mudguard set from Revolution, the in-house bikes and accessories brand from the Edinburgh Bicycle Co-Operative, retails at £14.99.

Both mudguards, made from a rigid plastic, are easily attached and don’t require stays, with the front fixed by way of a fork crown bracket, requiring the necessary clearance between the fork crown and front tyre, while the rear ‘guard requires no tools to attach or remove it from the seatpost.

The front mudguard provides enough protection from road spray and the grime that comes with it, however the length of the rear mudguard (at 37 cm) fails to offer complete coverage, particularly when compared to a ‘guard which hugs the tyre.

That said, these mudguards are an easy, if bulky, solution if you want a set to switch between bikes, although you’ll still end a ride on wet roads with a slightly damp rear end.
