The Victor Ludorum Autumn Classic will be hosting the first Combined Services cyclosportive

Ken and Barbara Robson, organisers of UCI sanctioned Highclere
Castle Sportive (Sunday 10th June), are pleased to announce that their second
sportive event, the Victor Ludorum Autumn Classic, is live and taking entries. It
is a new sportive and will be held at Newbury Showground on Sunday 30th September
2007. The featured cycle events will be the 115mile Victor Ludorum Autumn Classic with
Individual and Team classifications, the 72mile White Horses Challenge and the first Combined Services
Ken Robson says – “We wanted to bring together a new cycling event in
the autumn that would be a fitting climax to a very active summer season. The
course design will ensure that climbers, trialists, and team riders will all
get their chance to excel. This is an experienced rider’s ride and we
will recognise the Victor Ludorum best of the Gold standard on the day.
Newbury showground, close to J13 of the M4, is a prime location in which to
stage the event. It includes permanent showers and toilet blocks, overnight
parking, and 180 acres of traffic-free tarmac roads. The standards that have
been set at Highclere Castle cyclosportive will be more than matched for the
Victor Ludorum Autumn Classic at Newbury Showground.”
Andy Cook, Everyday Cycling Events Manager at British Cycling had this to say:
"With the huge increase in popularity of Cyclosportive events in the UK,
British Cycling is aiming to set realistic standards by which these non competitive
events should be organised based on common sense and best practice. This is
being achieved by listening and talking to existing organisers of established
Cyclosportive events and liaising with those new organisers of which there are
many, this allows us to take examples of best practice and set bench marks to
share amongst Cyclosportive organisers. Essentially British Cycling’s role is
one of facilitator and Co-ordinator for these types of events.
