Places on this year’s Etape du Tour between Foix and Loudenville are still available through RoadCyclingUK.com in association with Sports Tours International. Taking place on 16 July and crossing the Col de Port, Col de Portet d’Aspet, Col de Mente, Col du Porte de Bales and Col de Peyresourde, it is widely expected to be one of the most demanding editions ever of the Etape du Tour. This is the 15th edition of an event which has become the definitive international cyclosportive, covering as it does the precise route of one of the mountain stages of the Tour de France route of the year in which it takes place.
This means that amateur enthusiasts and leading non-professional riders alike can line up for a crack at the same roads and mountain passes that will be ridden a few days later by competitors in the Tour itself, and can go some way to measuring themselves against their heroes. Always mountainous, the event asks serious questions of even the best-prepared of participants, and is not suitable for the beginner. However, the immensity of the challenge itself is enough of a draw to ensure that places on the start line are eagerly sought.
Sports Tours International has reserved a number of places in the event, of which some 300 are still available on a first-come, first served basis. These places range from entry-only at £120 per person, which require entrants to arrange their own transport and accommodation, to fully-supported entry with transport to the start and from the finish, and include fly-drive options for those who wish to arrange their own transport while taking advantage of Sports Tours International’s transport arrangements.
