Dartmoor Classic almost full

With five months to go, the Dartmoor Classic sportive is rapidly heading for another capacity field.

As February approaches, 900 places have already been filled and a further 200 are currently reserved by Devon County Council / TravelWise for local residents making their first attempt at this type of challenge.

“Unlike some other major events we didn’t do the dramatic opening for entries on an early January date and have people sitting at their computers at midnight only to have their applications returned. Without any fanfare or fuss, we simply and quietly started accepting entries back in October and process them once a week as they come in. The system works really well for us and allows us to deal with any individual queries immediately.” said chief organiser Ken Robertson.

“However, the last few weeks have seen the take up accelerating, with 500 names added to the list since Christmas, so it’s all starting to get a bit hectic and there are now only about 400 places left” he added.

Further demand for places is expected to rise after the Triathlon, Cycling and Running Show, in Surrey on Feb. 7th/ 8th, where the event will be promoted via a prize draw for a pair of complimentary Dartmoor Classic jerseys and free entries to the June 28th ride.

Now enjoying a place on the UCI international fixtures list, the routes through the spectacular Dartmoor National Park are starting to attract overseas attention, with recent entries arriving from the USA, Canada, Scandinavia, Holland and France.
