What is the Dave Rayner fund?
It was set up in memory of Professional rider Dave Rayner, he was tragically killed in 1994. Dave was a fine rider and like most British riders on the continent had to ride harder than his established ‘European’ conterparts. The fund supports promising young riders who decide to start a career on the continent.
Riders who have received help from the fund include: Dave Millar, Charly Wegelius, Tom Southam and Jamie Burrow, more recently James Millard, Tom Barras, Yanto Barker and Alex Coutts are amoung several riders supported in their quest to become a full time pro.
There is also an annual dinner and guest of honour this year is no other than Eddy Merckx. Miguel Indurain has attended in the past and many UK ex-pros like Chris Boardman are often there.
This year’s Dave Rayner Ride is on: 10th October
Starts: 9.30 am
Meet: Skipton Town Hall, the ride is around the Yorkshire Dales
How Far?: It takes Peter (RCUK’s self confessed slow rider) around 6 Hours.
