Sir Chris Hoy to attend London Skyride

Mayor of London Boris Johnson and Sky, in partnership with British Cycling, will on Sunday 20 September host Mayor of London’s Skyride -a mass participation event that will see tens of thousands of cyclists enjoy traffic-free, city centre roads for the day. The aim of the day is to encourage cyclists of all ages and abilities to get back on their bikes.

Also in attendance will be multiple Olympic gold medallist Sir Chris Hoy, model and actor Kelly Brook and TV presenter Gethin Jones.

Allowing cyclists to take in some of London’s most iconic landmarks, the route will cover Buckingham Palace, St Paul’s Cathedral and The Tower of London and will feature St James’s Park and the river views of The Embankment. Thousands of cyclists from all over London are expected to take part and enjoy a variety of entertainment which will include:

  • Skyride Street Zone – Professional BMX riders and cyclists will be performing tricks. There will be opportunities for members of the pubic to take a course in stunt riding.
  • Skyride Style Zone – Your chance to give your bike a free make over using the most up to date designs and accessories.
  • Skyride Photo Point – At a designated point riders should smile as they ride past the cameras for a free memento of the day to download at www.goskyride.com
  • Skyride Active Zone – This area will provide tips on health and wellbeing from British Cycling and Bike4Life – part of the Department of Health’s ‘Change4Life’ campaign to tackle obesity in the UK.
  • Skyride Active Zone – Cycle Sprint Challenge – There will be an opportunity to try out cycle sprinting on Watt bikes – used to measure power – and compete against friends and family as well as beat celebrity sprint times.
  • Skyride Family – Fun, safe area for kids and families. Children can learn new bike skills with free Go Ride sessions from British Cycling professionals.

    Mayor of London’s Skyride is the final event in a series of five Skyrides that have taken place across the country, designed to encourage people to get back on their bikes and enjoy the benefits of a fitter, healthier lifestyle. Events that have already taken place in Manchester, Hounslow, Glasgow and Leicester throughout the summer.
