Wheels in Wheels CC have announced that Geoff Thomas will ride the Tour of Worcestershire Sportive to help raise funds for the Geoff Thomas Foundation this weekend (Sunday 13 September).
Geoff and a team from the Geoff Thomas Foundation will be riding the third edition of this popular 92 mile event based around Worcester and taking in many of the Malvern’s famous climbs. The event is part of Geoff’s season long cyclosportive campaign to help raise funds for his charity and the entry fee includes a £2 donation to the Geoff Thomas Foundation – the 2009 charity of Wheels in Wheels CC.
“I’m really looking forward to this ride,” says Geoff, “the course looks like it will be a good day out and it’s good to know that all entrants are not only challenging themselves but also helping to support the fight against cancer.”
Supported by Worcestershire’s Choose How You Move Scheme, the event uses all the best bits from the Tour of Britain routes through the County of Worcestershire in 2007 and 2008 including some climbs they couldn’t send the pros up.
The route takes in all the Malvern climbs such as Ankerdine but then throws in Stanford Bank and a trip out to Tenbury Wells with another 6 climbs before the killer option of Wynniattes Way Abberley, followed by 5 more climbs before returning to Worcester. There will be several feed and water stations en route with a mixture of High 5 products, fruit and cakes, and optional event timing is will also available.
There is also a family ride which is an almost traffic free ride round the city ideal for children of all ages and the best bit is, it’s free to enter! Just go to the website and register before the event.
The HQ will be the centre of the Racecourse and parking is free and plentiful with refreshments at the end of the ride.
Entries are available on-line only at £25 for the 92 mile Challenge and the Free Family ride both by downloadable entry form from www.wheelsinwheelscc.com.
