Paris-Nice 2014: stage three – five observations

Third time lucky for John Degenkolb as Magny-Cours makes for novel finale

Geraint Thomas may have finished in among the leading group on stage two, but he did so without any of his team-mates after Edvald Boasson Hagen’s crash held up several Team Sky riders behind him.

The British team are quick learners, though, and showed they wouldn’t be making the same mistake again on stage three, with the team’s riders lining out at the front of the bunch and sharing the load with FDJ.fr.

Some huge turns on the front by the likes of Luke Rowe ensured Thomas stayed safely in the bunch, and with only four sprinters placed ahead of him in the general classification so far, the Welshman is in prime position to do battle with the likes of Nibali and Costa in the stages to come.
