This year we were treated to a tantalising glimpse of the future of how professional cycling may be broadcast on television.
On-bike cameras were trialled by a number of teams at races through the year and the newly-formed Velon group has made embracing technology a key part of its remit.
And what a success those trials were, as we were treated to a close-up view of John Degenkolb and Mark Cavendish sprinting wheel-to-wheel in California, and a view from inside the peloton at the Tour de France.
From high-octane sprints to the cobblestones and fighting for supremacy in the mountains, on-bike cameras promise to bring a whole new level of action and insight to cycling fans. The next step will see the footage integrated into live television coverage, rather than published on YouTube after the race.
