Sir Bradley Wiggins (Team Sky/Great Britain)
Sir Bradley Wiggins (Team Sky/Great Britain)
There is little more Sir Brad can do to add to his glistening cycling CV, with seven Olympic medals, the 2012 Tour de France title and now the World Time Trial Championships all to his name.
Another shot at Paris-Roubaix – after his ninth place last year – has been touted, while an effort at the hour record looks likely to happen in the summer, with no Grand Tour commitments expected.
Wiggins has already made a successful return to the track this year, having been a late call-up to Team England’s team pursuit quartet for the Commonwealth Games – helping them to the silver medal in the process.
And while his hopes of competing at the Rio 2016 Olympics appear likely to be determined by how much he commits to the track in 2015, a shot at the hour record will be well within his armoury.
The World Time Trial Championships saw Wiggins average a stunning 50km/h as he set a rainbow jersey-winning time of 56:25.
Upping that by another two or three kph on the track, should Wiggins arrive in the same peak condition he showed in Ponferrada, will certainly not be beyond him.
