Elite cycling to return to Olympic velodrome as new Revolution Series announced

Elite track cycling will return to the Olympic velodrome for the first time in March next year after organisers of the Revolution Series announced the venue will host its 2014 grand finale.

The 2013/14 season, the 11th installment of the Revolution Series, will feature five rounds for the first time and registration for tickets – on sale Friday July 26 – is now open.

Starting at the National Cycling Centre, Manchester, on October 26, the series will travel to Scotland for round two at the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome, Glasgow, on November 30.

It returns to Manchester for rounds three and four, on January 4 and February 1 respectively, before concluding at the renamed Lee Valley VeloPark on March 15.

The season finale offers fans the chance to watch elite track cycling at the scene of some of Team GB and Paralympics GB’s greatest triumphs at London 2012, for the first time since the Games.

Shaun Dawson, chief executive of Lee Valley Regional Park Authority, said: “We’re thrilled that the grand finale of the Revolution Series will be held at Lee Valley VeloPark.

“Our first major post-Games event will bring that magic back to this world-class legacy venue again.”

Double gold medallist Ed Clancy was the star rider in the series last season, while Peter Kennaugh and Jody Cundy also rode in front of sell-out crowds.

Demand for tickets this year is expected to better last year too, when venues sold out several months in advance.

Registered customers will receive a link to buy tickets several hours ahead of their release for general sale, while priority booking is also available to British Cycling members and previous Revolutions Series customers from Wednesday July 24.
