Five young riders to watch at the Giro d’Italia and Tour of California

Who to keep an eye on as stars of the future shine

Fresh from winning the Tour of Turkey, 21-year-old Adam Yates continued his sensational start to life with Orica-GreenEDGE with fourth place on the mountainous stage three of the Tour of California.

Though not targeting GC success this time out, Yates now finds himself fifth overall and is in a great place to continue Orica-GreenEDGE’s fine season as he targets stage wins.

Big things are expected of the Bury-born rider, who this year has also topped the youth classification at the Tour de San Luis. Cycling’s three Grand Tours were not immediately on his agenda when he signed neo-pro terms alongside twin brother Simon but his name has certainly been put in the shop window as the team plans its squads for the Tour de France and Vuelta a Espana.

Even if he is not selected this time out, Yates remains a rider to watch as he continues to go from strength to strength.
