French sprinter Nacer Bouhanni has belatedly added a Grand Tour stage to his palmares and you would fancy it to be the first of many to come for the 23-year-old.
The resilience he showed to win the stage, having suffered punctures to his front and back wheels on the penultimate lap was incredible and made him a deserving winner. Bouhanni arrived at the Giro with a point to prove, with fellow young sprinter Arnaud Demare set to lead the sprinting charge for FDJ.fr at the Tour de France.
Bouhanni may have been unable to beat Marcel Kittel (Giant-Shimano) earlier in the race, finishing second on stage two, but the Frenchman is certainly one of cycling’s promising young fast men.
Bouhanni already has six victories to his name this season, including a stage win at Paris-Nice. Now, in the Giro d’Italia’s red points jersey after stage four, there are plenty more sprinting opportunities to come for Bouhanni and this represents a big chance for rack up the prizes to add to his palmares.
