Rohan Dennis is one of a number of promising young riders coming through the ranks at Garmin-Sharp, with big things also expected of team-mate Andrew Talansky among others.
Dennis is the man of the moment though, rescuing what has been a bitterly disappointing week for the American team after their Giro d’Italia time trial crash with success in California.
Second only to Sir Bradley Wiggins in the individual time trial – a position he has occupied in races against the clock on several occasions this season – Dennis went one better on the mountainous stage three.
Former Tour de France champion Wiggins was among the riders he attacked to win the stage and gain time on the Brit. Wiggins remains the man in control, but Dennis will be keen to prove himself and is likely to now push him all the way.
