After patiently biding their time on the near pan-flat opening stages of the 97th edition of the Giro d’Italia, the GC men wasted no time in making their mark on the first medium-mountain stage.
Cadel Evans (BMC Racing), Joaquim Rodriguez (Katusha) and Nicolas Roche (Tinkoff-Saxo) were all among the riders to show their hands on the fifth stage of this year’s Corsa Rosa.
The day, however, belonged to rising Italian star Diego Ulissi (Lampre-Merida) who accelerated in stunning fashion to claim his second career Giro stage win.
