Second at Milan-San Remo through Ben Swift, fifth at the Tour of Flanders thanks to Luke Rowe, third at Paris-Roubaix courtesy of Ian Stannard – Team Sky’s first ever Monument win appeared to be only a matter of time.
And so it proved, with Wout Poels sprinting to victory at Liege-Bastogne-Liege to record both his and the British WorldTour team’s first ever win in one of the five biggest one-day races of the season.
After rain, snow and more rain had battered the peloton as they left Liege for Bastogne and then returned via the hills, Poels conquered the weather, the course and his rivals to record a famous victory.

It was also the first Dutch win at Liege-Bastogne-Liege since 1988 to add to the achievements, and UCI WorldTour photographer Stefano Sirotti was on hand to capture the best of the day’s action.
