Adriano Malori (Movistar) is fast becoming a time trial contender to be feared, with the Italian winning two races against the clock since joining the Spanish team from Lampre-Merida this season.
Malori beat off competition including Sir Bradley Wiggins (Team Sky), Fabian Cancellara (Trek Factory Racing) and world champion Tony Martin (Omega Pharma-Quickstep) to win the final stage of this year’s Tirreno-Adriatico – the first WorldTour time trial of the season.
The chief celebrations belonged to Alberto Contador (Tinkoff-Saxo) as he avoided any trouble to comfortably retain his huge overall lead to seal the blue jersey.
El Pistolero becomes the proud new owner of a giant trident trophy as a result of his efforts and the statement his form in the ‘Race of the Two Seas’ gives to his rivals is equally spectacular.
