Tour de France 2016: stage six – photo gallery

Mark Cavendish wins third sprint with fellow Brit Dan McLay third

Written off by some prior to this year’s Tour de France, Mark Cavendish has proved his doubters wrong in some style in the biggest race of the season.

Not content with checking off one of his primary goals for the season – a stage one victory and the chance to pull on the yellow jersey – the Manx Missile has gone from strength to strength, adding the 28th and 29th Tour de France stage wins of his career since.

His latest victory, bettering Marcel Kittel in a high-octane drag to the line, takes him above Bernard Hinault in the all-time list of Tour stage winners – now only Eddy Merckx is above him.

Le Blaireau was there to shake Cavendish’s hand on the podium as he dropped to third on the list, however, as the Manx sprinting legend also moved back to the top of the points classification.
