Clear blue skies and snowcapped mountains provided a suitably scenic backdrop to Rui Costa’s second consecutive overall victory in the Tour de Suisse. 

The Portugese rider removed any doubt concerning his right to a second title by winning the final stage time trial to displace long-term leader, Mathias Frank, from the top of the general classification.

Costa is likely to ride in support of Alejandro Valverde at the Tour de France, but in current form, he looks capable of more.

Movistar has shown itself to be one of the powerhouses of the WorldTour peloton this season. The Tour de Suisse has done little to harm a growing reputation.
