Three-time Tour de France champion Greg LeMond knows all about winning cycling’s greatest prize, and is expecting several key stages on this year’s route.

LeMond, winner in 1986, 1989 and 1990, shares the belief of many that the heat will be on from the very stage – with the stage one time trial, which takes place in Utrecht on Saturday (July 4) – and ideal form finder.

The American will be working for Eurosport through the Tour de France, and believes the race will be one of the most open ever – citing the 1984 edition, where he came third behind Bernard Hinault and Laurent Fignon, as the last comparative race.

But with so many contenders for the general classification, led by the four best Grand Tour riders of this generation, in Alberto Contador, Nairo Quintana, Chris Froome and Vincenzo Nibali, where will the race be won?

And, most importantly, who will it be won by? LeMond talked us through his key stages for this year’s race.
