Joaquim Rodriguez (Katusha)
Joaquim Rodriguez (Katusha)
Joaquim Rodriguez is another former champion who will not be fazed by having an extra climb to tackle on the final circuit.
In fact, if his past successes at races like the Giro di Lombardia are anything to go by, he will be the man to watch on the Cherave.
The climb may prove to be too short and not quite steep enough – despite its tough gradient – for Purito but second place in 2011, success in 2012 and sixth in 2013 show he knows how to succeed in one-day races, not just on brutal climbs.
With fellow former champion Daniel Moreno – who Rodriguez set up for victory in 2013 – alongside him, Katusha hold two a pair of aces in their hand.
And if the deal is kind, you can expect either one of them – or even Giampaolo Caruso – to attack early, before a stinging second attack on the Huy from whoever their chosen man is.
