Tour of Beijing 2014: preview

WorldTour season draws to a close with fourth and final edition of Chinese race

Last time out, Rui Costa – then of Movistar – enjoyed his first stage race in the rainbow jersey and played a key role in Benat Intzausti’s victory.

Costa attacked early on Miaofeng Mountain as the Spanish team made their numerical advantage in the front group count.

In form, having finished third at Il Lombardia, this time Costa has the chance to ride for himself and follow up his Tour de Suisse win and, in the process, move up to third in the world – not bad considering he rode most of the year in the ‘cursed’ rainbow jersey.

Costa’s climbing ability is undoubted, and his form was proved in the Classic of the Falling Leaves.

And having showed what he can do on Miaofeng Mountain 12 months ago, the Portuguese ace will definitely be among the riders to watch this time out.
