Tour of Beijing 2014: preview

WorldTour season draws to a close with fourth and final edition of Chinese race

BMC Racing have named a strong line-up for the season’s final race with Tejay van Garderen among the riders capable of sealing overall success.

Winner at the USA Pro Challenge, after finishing fifth at the Tour de France, Van Garderen and veteran Samuel Sanchez are both more than capable of challenging overall.

And with Steve Cummings – fourth in 2011 and a stage winner in 2012 – and Philippe Gilbert also set for the start line, BMC Racing could be in for a very successful five days.

Van Garderen started the season in fine form, with podium finishes at the Tour of Oman and Volta Ciclista a Catalunya.

Oman is similar in its nature to the Tour of Beijing, in that it features one hugely pivotal summit finish on a brutal climb.

Only Chris Froome bettered Van Garderen on Green Mountain and with the American right back in form in recent weeks, do not bet against him going one better on Miaofeng Mountain.

And if not him, Sanchez – sixth at the Vuelta and fifth at Il Lombardia – is also bang in form and more than capable of a result.
