Tour de France 2014: stage 17 – rider reaction

Rafal Majka celebrates second win of debut Tour on brutal day in the Pyrenees

When Alberto Contador crashed out of the Tour de France on stage 10 with a broken leg, Tinkoff-Saxo’s Tour de France could have crumbled around them.

Their chief aim for the year, devoid of their in-form team leader any hopes of swapping their fluoro yellow jersey for the prestigious maillot jaune had evaporated.

But, as they say, from the ashes of disaster grow the roses of success, and where there rivals – most notably Team Sky – have struggled to cope in the absence of their leaders, Tinkoff-Saxo have flourished.

Rafal Majka now holds a commanding lead in the polka dot jersey after his second victory of his debut Tour, the Pole soloing to success on the Pla d’Adet just one day after team-mate Michael Rogers’ maiden Tour stage win.

We have rounded up the best reaction to the stage below, including the thoughts of Majka, Contador and Rogers.
