Edvald Boasson Hagen (Team Sky)
While Sky’s popular Norwegian individual success in 2013 was largely limited to achievements in his home country, Boasson Hagen performed consistently throughout the year. The Norwegian national time trial champion won the overall title at the 2.1-classified Tour of Norway, a solo attack on the penultimate stage paying off as he took the stage, moved into the leader’s jersey and successfully retained both his GC and points classification leads on the final day.
‘Eddie’ also enjoyed a consistent Classics campaign, finishing ninth in Harelbeke before securing two top 20 finishes at Gent-Wevelgem and the Tour of Flanders. Boasson Hagen also played his part in Chris Froome’s Criterium du Dauphine victory – while earning a stage victory for himself too – and did his bit at the Tour de France before injury forced his withdrawal. He bounced back to compete at the Vuelta however, and proved his sprinting ability with two second places, before helping Team Sky to third place in the World Championship team time trial.
