Froome vs Contador vs Quintana
Froome vs Contador vs Quintana
Injuries to Chris Froome (Team Sky) and Alberto Contador (Tinkoff-Saxo) at the Tour de France last year denied fans what had looked to be a phenomenal showdown between the two.
Next year, however, both have committed to the race again – despite Contador also chasing the Giro d’Italia and Froome having been unsure of the mountain-heavy course.
And to add to the intrigue, Giro d’Italia champion Nairo Quintana is another likely to be on the Tour de France start line for what could be the most eagerly-anticipated contest in recent memory.
The absence of a long time trial will not favour Froome but he proved he can compete with Contador in the mountains at the Vuelta a Espana – where both were not even fully fit.
At full tilt, the three doing battle on La Toussuire could well become a defining moment in the Tour de France’s history.
Quintana will be the man to beat however, having proved he is an undoubted star of the future with a stunning ride on Val Martello – where he barely even grimaced on the brutal climb – on his way to Giro d’Italia success.
