UCI WorldTour: transfers round-up – part two

Edvald Boasson Hagen leaves Team Sky after five years; Ivan Basso heads to Tinkoff-Saxo

Jan Bakelants has signed a two-year deal with Ag2r-La Mondiale just one year after joining Omega Pharma-Quickstep.

Bakelants, a Tour de France stage winner in 2013, was one of a number of big signings for the Belgian super team last winter.

He has enjoyed some success, proving his class as a breakaway specialist as he laid the foundations for Tony Martin’s solo stage win at the Tour of the Basque Country before soloing to victory himself on stage six of the Criterium du Dauphine.

Bakelants has also proved himself as a contender overall – finishing inside the top 20 during four WorldTour races to date this season, before finishing the Tour de France in 24th place.

However, Dutch news website Wielergek have carried the report he is to leave for pastures new in 2015, with Ag2r-La Mondiale his new team.

Bakelants’ signing, with the Belgian set to travel in the opposite direction to Maxime Bouet, is to be confirmed by the team in the coming days.
