Six new led cycle routes into London revealed

The London Cycling Campaign (LCC) will continue its BikeTube scheme, led rides into London, until 2 October. The organised rides start at six different locations across London and take place every Friday.

Rides leave their starting points at 8am every Friday until 2 October, running from the suburbs into central London. The rides include:

1. Brixton to Russell Square
Starts – Outside KFC (corner of Brixton Road and Coldharbour Lane)

2. Finsbury Park to St Pauls
Starts – Finsbury Park Gate, Finsbury Park

3. Mile End to St Pauls
Starts – Under the Green Bridge, Mile End Road

4. Ravenscourt to Trafalgar Square
Starts – Outside Ravenscourt Tube, Ravenscourt Place

5. Swiss Cottage to Holborn
Starts – Outside the theatre by Swiss Cottage tube

6. Greenwich to St Pauls
Starts – Cutty Sark Gardens, King William Walk

LCC will provide experience marshals to guide the cyclists ensuring that nobody takes a wrong turn.

LCC marketing manager Lucy Cooper said, “This is a real opportunity to get more novice cyclists on their bikes. We’re really pleased to be working with TfL on the BikeTubes, an idea that originated within LCC.”

Mayor of London, Boris Johnson, said, “Whether it’s Monday, Wednesday or Sunday I tend to go by bike but, although it is safe and getting safer, I fully appreciate that some people find it a little daunting at first.

“Cycle Fridays are a brilliantly simple way of giving thousands of commuters the confidence to get cycling. I’m sure when they see how much of a fun, healthy and convenient experience it can be, they’ll be hooked.”
