Five reasons why your next cycling holiday should be in the Pyrenees

Planning a late summer cycling getaway? Head to the Pyrenees...

Get to work on your bucket list

The Pyrenees were first included in the Tour de France in 1910, the eighth edition of the race, and since then the mountain range has become a permanent fixture.

In fact, the Col du Tourmalet has featured in the Tour de France 83 times (and most recently on stage 18 of the 2014 edition), more than any other climb, but it is only one of many ‘must-ride’ climbs in a region packed to the brim with classic ascents.

The Col du Tourmalet is perhaps the most famous climb in the history of the Tour de France

What should be on your bucket list? Start with the Col du Tourmalet, Col d’Aubisque (and, with it, the Col du Soulor), Col d’Aspin, Col de Marie Blanque, Col de Peyresourde and Hautacam.

In reality, however, the world is your oyster and the Pyrenees offers countless climbs – both iconic and off the beaten track – on which to test your legs.
