Olympic champions Laura Trott, Dani King and Joanna Rowsell will ride alongside Sir Bradley Wiggins in this year’s Ride with Brad sportive on Sunday August 11.
The world record-breaking women’s team pursuit gold medalists, and their Wiggle-Honda team mates Elinor Barker, Amy Roberts and rider/manager Rochelle Gilmore, are signed up for the ride, which rolls out from Barnoldswick, Lancashire.
Now in its second year, Ride with Brad raises money for the Bradley Wiggins Foundation, a registered charity aiming to promote participation in sport and also a key supporter of Wiggle-Honda.
Commenting on the announcement, King said: “It is fantastic to be able to ride alongside fans in the Ride with Brad Sportive.
“As a team we are really lucky to be supported by the Bradley Wiggins Foundation, so it is lovely to be able to give something back to say thank you.”
Trott, who also won Olympic gold in the omnium, added: “We had incredible support from fans during the Olympics, I can’t wait to have the opportunity to meet some of them, have a chat and do what we like doing best – riding our bikes.”
The event offers participants the unique opportunity of riding alongside Sir Bradley and the Wiggle-Honda team.
Starting and ending in Barnoldswick, there are three routes of 100km, 160km and a new 50km distance, taking in stunning Lancastrian scenery and some of Wiggins’ favourite training roads.
Wiggins, who also won Olympic team trial gold last summer after his famous Tour win, said: “It was a great event last time, riding round this beautiful area where I train when at home and meeting so many riders and spectators.
“We want to keep the event growing and becoming the best sportive there is. So I urge everyone to put the 11th August 2013 in their diary and crack on with their training.”
Entry for the 160km and 100km routes costs £40, while the 50km route is £35.
