Twelve more must-ride climbs for your bucket list

More of the longest, hardest and highest climbs to ride

Great Dunn Fell in the Pennines was on the shortlist for our original installment but failed to make the cut, however there’s no way Britain’s highest road can miss out this time around.

The climb is known as the UK’s Mont Ventoux and for good reason. The road rises out of the village of Knock and climbs for nearly 7.5km at an average gradient of 8 per cent before reaching the summit at 844m.

The road itself, which has a superb, smooth surface to ease a gradient which reaches 25 per cent in places, serves an Air Traffic Control radar station and while closed closed to motor vehicles, is open to cyclists brave enough to take on the challenge.

Vital statistics

Length: 7.4km
Average gradient: eight per cent
Start elevation: 219m
End elevation: 844m
