Video: Long daze, summer nights and 300 miles by bike

Mike Cotty isn’t afraid of a challenge. In 2011 his Raid Pyrénées epic saw him ride coast-to-coast across the Pyrénées, via a 690km route and 13 mountain passes, in under 31 hours.

Now he’s preparing for his next challenge and, while not quite ready to lift the lid on the gory details, ticked off a 300-mile training ride in 19 hours last weekend. That’s right, 300 miles in one hit.

This video documents the ride from Herne Bay in Kent back to Southampton – and with more than 6,000m of climbing.

“It was pretty crazy but you just break it down into chunks. I’m really happy with that, that’s a good day’s work and has got my weekly mileage up,” joked Mike after completing the ride.

Mike is also a veteran of some of the toughest sportives in the world and finished 22nd in the 2006 Etape du Tour. Having ridden most of the 2013 route, last week he shared with us his top tips for tackling this year’s edition of the Etape.
