Pinarello unveil Dogma F8w with SRAM Red eTap wireless groupset

Pinarello quick to embrace wireless shifting with Dogma F8 dressed in SRAM Red eTap groupset

Pinarello have launched a version of the flagship Dogma F8 race bike with SRAM’s new Red eTap wireless electronic groupset, to be available as a limited edition machine from January 2016.

SRAM unveiled the long-awaited Red eTap in August and it arrives as the American firm’s first electronic groupset, coming six years after Shimano launched Di2 and four years after Campagnolo introduced EPS.

However, whereas the Shimano Di2 and Campagnolo EPS groupsets are fully wired, Red eTap is wireless, with both shifters and derailleurs powered by their own batteries.

The Pinarello Dogma F8w will be available in limited numbers from January

The groupset rethinks SRAM’s shifting logic with the right lever used to shift into a smaller sprocket on the cassette, the left shifter used to move the rear derailleur up the cassette. If you press both levers together then it will shift the front mech.

“I’ve been trying the new SRAM Red eTap on my Dogma since a long time; I’m really impressed by the performance of this product. I am sure that it will be perfect on our bikes,” said Fausto Pinarello.

Pinarello are one of the first companies to announce a bike specced with Red eTap, following Boardman, whose revamped 2016 line-up includes the Air and SLR 9.9 models, which both come with Red eTap.

The Dogma F8w isn’t a wireless-specific frame; instead the frame ports for cables or wires have been covered, so you could switch to an alternative groupset at a later date if you get tired of Red eTap.

The Dogma F8w will also come with Zipp 303 Firecrest carbon clincher wheels, and a Most Aero 3K stem and handlebar. The frame will be painted in an exclusive colourway, catchily named 896 RED WHITE F8W. It’s red and white.

The UK price is yet to be announced but given that this is SRAM’s flagship groupset on Pinarello’s flagship frame, and the rest of the build is none too shabby, don’t expect it to be cheap.
