Etape Caledonia and Etape Pennines open for entries

Two of the UK’s most popular closed-road sportives – the Etape Caledonia and Etape Pennines – are now open for entries.

The Etape Caledonia and Etape Pennines sportives are now open for entries

The Etape Caledonia was the UK’s first closed-road sportive and is, according to the organisers, the largest event of its kind outside of Continental Europe.

More than 7,000 registered their interest ahead of entries opening for the 2013 edition, which will be run on Sunday May 12 over an 81-mile course with 1,949m of climbing.

Meanwhile, the Etape Pennines will return after its inaugural edition in 2012. Dubbed ‘the Etape Caledonia’s tougher younger brother’, the Etape Pennies will take place on Sunday October 6 over a lumpy 78-mile course.

“With cycling placed firmly in the hearts and minds of the British public following an incredible sporting year, Etape Caledonia and Etape Pennines offer riders the chance to test their legs over some of the most inspirational and challenging countryside in the UK,” said James Robinson, managing director of event organisers IMG Challenger World.

“The series is growing in popularity year-by-year and with such demand for the inspirational closed road courses that Etape Series events deliver, we are hoping to offer more opportunities in the future. Watch this space.”
