Trois Etapes announce inaugural pro-am Giro edition

Dates announced for 2014 events

The inaugural Trois Etapes Giro will take place in the Dolomites from Thursday June 6 to Sunday June 9 next year, organisers Cosaveli have confirmed.

Now in its third year, the pro-am Trois Etapes TdF – which will also return next August – has raised nearly £3 million for its charity partners prompting Cosaveli to add a Giro edition to their Global Series.

The Trois Etapes TdF takes in some of the most fearsome climbs of the Pyrenees, following the same route as the professionals will take earlier in the year (Pic: Cosaveli)

And the new event will see riders take in the iconic summits of the Passo Pordoi, Passo Giau, Passo San Pellegrino and Passo Fedaia.

Designed to give riders the chance to experience team cycling under race conditions, the events provide each of the 15 eight-man charity teams the full support professionals have in a Grand Tour.

Each team contains one professional and has its own car and a directeur sportif, with radio links to the team car and race director provided for every rider.

Niels Bryan-Low, CEO of organisers Cosaveli, said: “Our Giro and TdF events in 2014 are going to be more breathtaking and spectacular than ever before.

“2014 is going to be another big year for Cosaveli. With two Trois Etapes events now on the calendar, we’re hoping to raise more money for charity than ever before.”

Following last week’s Tour de France route announcement the Trois Etapes TdF, which will take place from Thursday August 7 to Sunday August 10, will follow the same course through the Pyrenees as its professional counterpart.

The Col d’Aubisque, Col du Soulor and Col du Tourmalet will all feature, while the stage from Pau to Hautacam – also confirmed as the route for next year’s Etape du Tour – is included.

Each rider involved raises funds for their charity team, with new charity partners added to the billing for next year’s races.
