John Degenkolb may be German, but his love affair with Spain is showing no signs of stopping as he continued his superb end to the season at the Vuelta a Espana.
With the World Championships set to take place in Ponferrada later this month, Degenkolb will start among the serious contenders to pull on the rainbow jersey after sealing stage win number four of this year’s race in A Coruna.
He has now won nine Vuelta stages in his career to date, in just two editions, and has strengthened his grip on the green jersey which, with just four stages remaining, could be heading to a sprinter for the first time since Mark Cavendish topped the points classification in 2010.
